Functional Skills Maths Tutor - PRISON EDUCATION

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7:45am - 5:00pm, Friday 7:45am - 12:30pm

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and committed Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join the education team within HMP Stocken. You'll work with small groups of learners, helping them develop essential Maths skills from Entry Level 1 up to Level 2.

This role goes beyond teaching - you'll be supporting learners to build confidence, achieve their goals, and create positive pathways for their future. You will deliver high‑quality, engaging sessions that are tailored to individual needs while ensuring all training plans, assessments and learning objectives are met.

You'll play a key part in helping learners progress, gain valuable qualifications, and build the foundations for long‑term change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Functional Skills Maths lessons from Entry Level 1 to Level 2
  • Provide high‑quality, engaging and accessible learning to small groups
  • Create, review and update training plans to meet learner needs
  • Support learners with their long‑term aspirations and progression routes
  • Ensure compliance, quality and learner‑centred delivery at all times
  • Track learner progress and maintain accurate records

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum grade C/4 GCSE in Maths (or equivalent)
  • Ability to teach Functional Skills Maths up to Level 2
  • Experience delivering training or teaching to groups
  • Strong ability to engage, motivate and support learners
  • Teaching or assessing qualification (desirable but not essential)
  • Full support available to achieve this during probation

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience within adult education, prison education, training or FE
  • Understanding of barriers faced by learners with convictions
  • Flexible approach and strong communication skills
  • Ability to deliver a variety of teaching methods to meet different learning styles
