Catering Tutor - HMP Belmarsh - Prison Education

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7:45am - 5:00pm, Friday 7:45am - 12:30pm

About the Role

This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners within a secure environment by delivering high‑quality Catering qualifications. Based onsite at HMP Belmarsh, you will work with small groups of adult learners to help them develop the professional skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to progress into meaningful work.

Prison education plays a crucial role in rehabilitation-supporting individuals to develop practical skills, gain accredited qualifications and build confidence that enhances their chances of successful resettlement. Education providers across the prison estate deliver more than two million hours of face‑to‑face learning each year, offering everything from basic education to vocational qualifications such as catering and hospitality.

As a Catering Tutor, you'll contribute to this important work by helping learners gain real‑world kitchen skills, develop safe working practices and achieve recognised qualifications that can support future employment in the food and hospitality sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging catering‑based vocational training to small groups of adult learners.
  • Create and implement training plans tailored to individual needs and prior experience.
  • Support learners to develop practical catering skills alongside professional behaviour and workplace standards.
  • Provide information, advice and guidance to help learners work towards their long‑term career goals.
  • Maintain high standards in teaching, assessment and classroom management.
  • Foster a positive and motivating learning environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Level 2 Catering qualification.
  • Strong, demonstrable vocational experience within the catering or hospitality sector.
  • Experience in delivering vocational training in any setting.
  • A teaching or assessing qualification is desirable (support can be provided to gain this during probation).
  • Ability to use a wide range of training methods to engage diverse learners.
  • Excellent communication skills, professionalism and an inclusive teaching approach.

Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential due to the nature of the role).
