Assistant Manager - Quality of Teaching & Learning - Prison Education

About the Role

A rewarding opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Manager overseeing the quality of teaching, learning and curriculum delivery within the education department at HMP Stocken.

In this senior role, you will support the Education Manager in leading a high‑performing team and ensuring that learners receive an outstanding educational experience. You will play a central part in shaping the curriculum, driving quality improvement, meeting performance indicators, and developing teaching and support staff to achieve positive learner outcomes.

You will also take responsibility for deputising in the absence of the Education Manager and ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day running of the education department.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the effective management and continuous improvement of the curriculum, ensuring it meets learner, employer and prison‑population needs. [peopleplus...ancies.com]
  • Take the establishment lead on quality assurance, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day education operations including learner induction, class allocation, attendance, behaviour and departmental conduct. [uk.indeed.com]
  • Support teaching staff to deliver innovative, inclusive, and high‑quality learning that aligns with Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
  • Lead on curriculum design, development and review, ensuring it remains relevant, engaging and responsive to learner needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external partnerships to enhance learner progression and support.
  • Monitor staff performance, set clear targets, and support professional development through coaching, mentoring and quality processes.
  • Use data effectively to drive improvements in retention, achievement and learner satisfaction.
  • Support recruitment, induction and mentoring of new teaching staff. [uk.indeed.com]
  • Ensure documentation, compliance, marking, assessment and reporting expectations are met to required standards.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, safeguarding, equality and positive learner experience.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Level 5 (or above) teaching qualification
  • Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) or willingness to work towards it
  • Significant teaching experience with a strong record of delivering high‑quality provision
  • Demonstrable experience in managing curriculum development, change and improvement, and leading teaching teams to improve learner outcomes [peopleplus...ancies.com]
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, influence and support staff
  • A proactive, innovative approach to problem‑solving and improving teaching practice
  • Clear understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF)
  • Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own transport (due to the nature of the role)
