Functional Skills Tutor - Maths and English

The Workers' Educational Association (WEA) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Functional Skills English & Maths Tutor to deliver learning to adult learners at our Rochdale-based provision.

This role involves teaching inclusive, learner‑centred Functional Skills sessions to groups of up to 15 adult learners, supporting them to develop confidence, essential skills and progression opportunities.

About the Role

You will:

  • Deliver high‑quality Functional Skills English and Maths courses to adult learners
  • Create engaging, supportive and inclusive learning sessions
  • Adapt teaching to meet the diverse needs and starting points of learners
  • Support learners to achieve qualifications and personal learning goals
  • Maintain accurate learner records in line with WEA requirements
  • Promote a positive learning environment aligned with WEA values

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience teaching Functional Skills English and/or Maths
  • Holds a relevant teaching qualification (or is working towards one)
  • Has experience working with adult learners, ideally in community or FE settings
  • Is passionate about widening participation and lifelong learning
  • Has strong communication, organisation and classroom management skills
