Catering Tutor - Prison Education

Locations: HMP Sudbury and HMP Foston Hall
Salary: From £30,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent | Full‑time
Hours:

  • Monday - Thursday: 7:45am - 5:00pm
  • Friday: 7:45am - 12:30pm

Please note: We are recruiting two Catering Tutors for identical roles, one based at HMP Sudbury and one based at HMP Foston Hall.


About the Role

We are seeking Catering Tutors to join our prison education teams based on‑site at HMP Sudbury and HMP Foston Hall. You will deliver catering and hospitality qualifications to small groups of prison‑based learners, supporting them to develop practical skills, confidence, and positive behaviours that lead to sustainable employment upon release.

This is a purpose‑driven role, ideally suited to an experienced catering professional with a strong background in teaching, assessing, or training delivery within an education or training‑provider setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, high‑quality catering and hospitality qualifications to small learner groups
  • Plan and deliver lessons aligned to awarding‑body requirements
  • Maintain accurate learner documentation and assessment records
  • Provide ongoing advice, guidance, and learner support
  • Use a wide range of practical and classroom‑based teaching methods
  • Support learners with employability skills and progression planning
  • Work collaboratively within a prison education environment

Essential Criteria (Please Read Carefully)

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered:

Assessing qualification - minimum Level 3
Teaching qualification - minimum Level 4, or clear evidence that this is currently being worked towards
Level 2 Catering qualification (or equivalent)
Substantial vocational experience within catering or hospitality
Experience delivering within a training provider or college setting

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience delivering education within prison or secure environments
  • Strong understanding of vocational qualification frameworks
  • Confident delivery across classroom and practical workshop settings

If you are currently working towards the required teaching qualification, structured support can be provided to help you complete this as part of your role, subject to meeting the remaining essential criteria.
