Lecturer - Painting & Decorating (Prison Education)

Location: HMP Fosse Way, Tigers Road, Wigston, Leicester, LE18 4WS
Hours: 37.5 per week, full time (52 weeks)
Salary: Up to £37,500 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract: Permanent


About the Role

Are you an experienced Painter & Decorator looking to move into teaching?
Or are you already a tutor wanting to make a meaningful impact?

This is a rewarding opportunity to join a prison education team delivering Painting & Decorating training and qualifications to learners at HMP Fosse Way.

You'll play a vital role in helping individuals gain skills, confidence, and qualifications that support rehabilitation and future employment.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Deliver engaging City & Guilds Level 1 Painting & Decorating and CSCS training
  • Create a positive, safe, and motivating learning environment
  • Plan and deliver practical, hands-on lessons tailored to varying abilities
  • Support learners in achieving qualifications and developing employability skills
  • Manage small groups (typically around 12 learners)
  • Track progress, set targets, and maintain accurate records
  • Contribute to the development of high-quality curriculum materials
  • Work collaboratively across the wider vocational education team

You may also provide support across different areas of the prison to enhance learning delivery.


What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Industry experience in Painting & Decorating
  • Relevant qualification (Level 2 or above in Painting & Decorating)
  • Knowledge of CSCS and Health & Safety standards
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A passion for supporting learners from diverse backgrounds

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, Award in Education & Training)
  • Experience delivering vocational training or apprenticeships

💡 No teaching experience? No problem.
If you have the right attitude and industry background, full training and support will be provided to help you become a qualified teacher.
