We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Functional Skills English Tutor to deliver City & Guilds Functional Skills qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 within a prison education environment. About the Role
As a Functional Skills English Tutor, you will deliver engaging, inclusive, and learner-focused sessions to groups of up to 12 learners. Working with individuals from a wide range of educational backgrounds and abilities, you will adapt your teaching approach to ensure every learner has the opportunity to succeed.
You will be responsible for:
- Delivering Functional Skills English qualifications from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2.
- Conducting initial assessments and using diagnostic tools to identify starting points and learning needs.
- Creating and maintaining Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
- Planning and delivering engaging lessons that support progression and achievement.
- Motivating learners and building confidence through positive learning experiences.
- Supporting learners with additional learning needs and implementing reasonable adjustments where required.
- Monitoring progress and preparing learners for examinations and assessments.
- Promoting literacy, reading for pleasure, and lifelong learning.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and prison staff to achieve positive learner outcomes.
- Maintaining accurate learner records and meeting quality assurance requirements.
About You

Essential Requirements
- Level 3 qualification in English or equivalent.
- Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent)
- Experience delivering Functional Skills English qualifications.
- Strong lesson planning and classroom management skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate learners with diverse needs and backgrounds.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and learner success.
Desirable
- Experience within prison education, adult learning, or further education settings.
- Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic and assessment tools.
- Knowledge of Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
- Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification, or willingness to work towards achieving one.
