Functional Skills & Generalist Tutor - Prison Education

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Functional Skills & Generalist Tutor to join our education team at HMP Stocken.

Based on-site, you will deliver engaging Functional Skills and vocational learning programmes to small groups of adult learners, supporting them to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to progress into further education, training and employment opportunities.

You will create a positive learning environment, develop individual learning plans, monitor learner progress and provide ongoing support to help learners achieve their qualifications and personal goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Functional Skills English and Maths, alongside generalist curriculum cover where required.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet individual learner needs.
  • Assess learner progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Support learners with their personal development and future aspirations.
  • Maintain accurate learner records and documentation.
  • Ensure high-quality teaching, learning and assessment at all times.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Level 3 English qualification (or equivalent).
  • Relevant industry expertise and substantial occupational experience.
  • Experience delivering training, teaching, coaching or mentoring.
  • The ability to engage and motivate learners from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A flexible approach and a genuine passion for education.

Desirable

  • Teaching qualification (AET, CET, DET, PGCE or equivalent).
  • Assessing qualification.
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
  • Experience working with adult learners.

Candidates who do not currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification may be considered, with support available to achieve the appropriate qualifications.
