Are you an experienced Functional Skills Tutor, Maths Tutor, or English Tutor looking for your next challenge within the Prison Education sector?

We are continually recruiting for a range of full-time, permanent Functional Skills opportunities across the UK and are keen to speak with qualified education professionals who have experience delivering Functional Skills Maths, Functional Skills English, or both.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and inclusive Functional Skills Maths and/or English sessions.
  • Plan, prepare and adapt lessons to meet individual learner needs.
  • Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support learners to achieve qualifications and positive outcomes.
  • Create a safe, motivating and learner-focused classroom environment.
  • Embed employability, digital and personal development skills into teaching.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, assessments and compliance documentation.
  • Support learners from a variety of backgrounds to achieve their goals.
  • Contribute towards rehabilitation by helping learners develop skills for life and work.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 5 Teaching Qualification or above (DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, Diploma in Education & Training, or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and/or English.
  • Strong lesson planning, delivery and assessment experience.
  • Excellent classroom management and learner engagement skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit a range of learner needs and abilities.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Passion for supporting learners to reach their full potential.

Desirable

  • Assessor qualification (TAQA, CAVA, A1 or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering GCSE Maths and/or English.
  • Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic assessment tools.
  • Understanding of Ofsted requirements and quality standards.
  • Experience working within prison education, adult education, further education, or employability programmes.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD and professional development.
