We are working in partnership with an ambitious higher education provider to appoint an Assistant Professor in Economics on a Teaching and Scholarship pathway.
The successful candidate will teach students from a range of academic, cultural and international backgrounds, creating an inclusive and intellectually rigorous learning environment.
The role will suit an academic who enjoys bringing economic theory to life through contemporary examples, applied analysis and accessible teaching. You will contribute primarily to Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics, while supporting wider curriculum development.
The Role
You will design and deliver high-quality teaching through lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and online learning. You will develop learning materials and assessments, provide timely feedback and support students throughout their academic journey.
You must be able to adapt your teaching to different levels of prior knowledge and educational experience.

Key responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and inclusive teaching in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics.
- Design lectures, seminars, workshops, assessments and learning materials.
- Use contemporary examples, data and case studies to strengthen student understanding.
- Provide clear, constructive and timely feedback.
- Support students' academic development and act as a personal tutor where required.
- Contribute to curriculum design, module review and programme enhancement.
- Participate in moderation, assessment boards and academic quality processes.
- Use digital technologies effectively in learning, teaching and assessment.
- Work collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues.
- Contribute to student recruitment and outreach where appropriate.
- Maintain current subject knowledge through scholarship, research or professional development.

Person specification
Applicants should hold a completed PhD, or be close to completion, in Economics or a closely related discipline. You should demonstrate teaching competence in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics at undergraduate level, alongside the ability to contribute to Econometrics or quantitative methods.
You will be an adaptable and student-focused educator with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly. You should be comfortable teaching both face-to-face and online and able to use technology effectively to support engagement and learning.
Essential criteria
- A completed PhD, or a PhD nearing completion, in Economics or a related field.
- Strong subject knowledge in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.
- The ability to contribute to Econometrics or quantitative methods.
- Experience of teaching, tutoring, training or presenting complex subject matter.
- The ability to develop engaging and inclusive learning activities.
- A commitment to supporting students from varied backgrounds.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Confidence using digital technologies to support learning.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience of UK higher education, international students, module design, assessment development or academic quality assurance would be advantageous. A recognised teaching qualification or Fellowship of Advance HE would also be welcomed.
- Evidence of scholarship, research or publication would be beneficial, particularly where this relates to sustainability, finance, technology, health economics, ethics or public policy.
